So Far It Has Been An Uneventful February

It has been a bit since I posted.  I just haven’t had anything to post about lately.  Well, that isn’t entirely true.  I just haven’t been motivated to post.  Being unemployed has its ups and downs.  I try to maintain a positive attitude and I’m still sending out resume after resume, without result so far, but there are periods when you just get tired of it all.  The past two weeks I’ve just been sort of feeling blah, which doesn’t really motivate me to post anything.

I’m still taking my Kenpo classes which have turned out to not only be good for me as a physical exercise, but also they are helping me to stay sane.  For four days a week I have a place to go where the outside world ceases to exist and I can focus on my training.  In order to continue with the classes I had to work something out with the studio and I have been doing odd jobs for them around the studio which again, gets me out of the house and busy.

I guess that is the worst part of unemployment.  With so little money coming in there is only so much I can do.  Sure, I have all this time on my hands, but unfortunately I don’t have the savings or additional income to travel.  It would be a great time to visit the places I’ve always wanted to see, but never had the time, but I just don’t have the needed funds.  I’d love to visit Ron and Nancy out in Vegas again and there is so much out there that I’d love to photograph, but buying a plane ticket isn’t fiscally responsible.  There are people on Flickr who I’ve become friendly with that I’d love to visit who live in parts of the US and the world that I’ve never been, but again, travel costs and with no job propsects, spending that money just isn’t feasable.  I guess that is the great catch 22 of life.  When you are working, you don’t have the time and when you aren’t working you don’t have the cash.

My “free” time hasn’t been totally wasted though.  We’ve done a lot of cleaning around the house (but still have a long way to go).  I’ve also been reading photography books, blogs and websites and learning a lot.  It is amazing just how much information is out there and available for free if you just take the time to look.

Speaking of photography, I did get one bit of good news recently.  A friend of mine is marketing a piece of clothing she designed and asked me to take some shots for her advertising.  I was glad to do it and had fun doing it.  A few good things came out of that session.  First and foremost, the resulting advertisment using my photos looks great (see the photo above).  Secondly, the photo shoot has generated some interest among the other horse owners at the barn for having me come out and shoot their horses as well so come the spring I may have some paying gigs doing that.  It just so happens that I love horses and if I can get paid by people to go out and shoot them then that is even better!

Other than that, things around here have been kind of run of the mill dull and routine.  Hopefully things will pick up soon.

At least I’ll be busy this weekend.  It is Farpoint time again (a small local sci-fi con) and I’ll be there this weekend working our table for the movie project we are working on.
